HC Deb 29 July 1953 vol 518 cc1290-1
44. Mr. Renton

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air why the road from Molesworth in Huntingdonshire to Clapton in Northamptonshire has been closed; whether he is aware that the alternative road via Old Weston, which is suggested by his Department, is not the most suitable alternative available; and whether he will make a statement.

The Under-Secretary of State for Air (Mr. George Ward)

This road has been closed so that Molesworth airfield can be developed to modern operational standards. The question of the line of an alternative road is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.

Mr. Renton

In negotiating with the Minister of Transport in this matter, will my hon. Friend remember that peace seems to be breaking out in Korea? Will that encourage him to do everything possible to enable the inhabitants of these peaceful villages to pursue their lawful occasions?

Mr. Ward

I shall bear that and other points in mind.
