HC Deb 22 July 1953 vol 518 cc368-9
44. Lady Tweedsmuir

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General to what extent the Isle of Man received a satisfactory television service of the Coronation on a one kilowatt transmitter; and whether this equipment is still being used.

Mr. Gammans

I have no information about the quality or extent of any television reception in the Isle of Man during the Coronation period. No licence has been issued by the Post Office for a television station to serve the Isle of Man, and I am informed that no such transmitter is in operation at the present time.

Lady Tweedsmuir

Is it not a fact that satisfactory television reception during the Coronation period was received over a considerable area of the Isle of Man due to the enterprise of a private operator? Would such a booster service be suitable in other areas, particularly the North-East of Scotland, until the full service is available?

Mr. Gammans

No. I am afraid that the analogy between conditions in the Isle of Man and at Aberdeen does not help my noble Friend.
