§ 6. Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Minister of Materials what action has been taken to encourage the production and use of synthetic materials; and if he will give examples.
§ Sir A. SalterDevelopments of production and use of synthetic materials are carried out by industry, not by Government. The Government, of course, welcome the contribution which synthetic materials make to exports and the saving of imports; and have given industry full scope in the licensing of building work, the import of necessary ingredients, and in the encouragement of scientific research, for example, through the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in conjunction with the National Physical and Chemical Laboratories and the Industrial Research Association.
