§ 54. Mr. Sparksasked the Minister of Transport what steps are now being taken to integrate road and railway freight traffic.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIntegration of road and rail freight traffic in the sense of running them as a single monopolistic entity is regarded by the Government as undesirable in the interests of the consumer even if it were practicable. The Government's transport policy is embodied in the Transport Act, 1953.
§ Mr. SparksDo I understand that the Government's policy is the complete disintegration of the road and rail freight traffic service which has been brought into being by the Transport Commission, and that henceforth there is to be war to the death between road and railway transport?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThere is to be healthy competition in the interests of the consumer.
