HC Deb 20 July 1953 vol 518 c25
35. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Minister of Food if, having regard to the surplus quantities of home-killed meat which are now available each summer, as compared with the scarcity of such supplies in the winter, he will initiate the provision of greatly increased cold storage facilities for home-killed meat.

Major Lloyd George

Experiments in freezing home-killed meat are continuing. Any large-scale development might have important consequences on the price and acceptability of home supplies. In view of our intention to hand the trade back to private enterprise as soon as practicable, I should not be justified in embarking on costly provision of increased cold storage space in present circumstances.
