HC Deb 16 July 1953 vol 517 c2218
1. Mr. Dodds

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what instructions he has issued to the Metro politan Police with regard to the pro posed traffic check in the London district to assess the current needs for the completion of the Dartford to Purfleet tunnel.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir David Maxwell Fyfe)

Two Metropolitan police officers will be on duty at each of four places in the Metropolitan police district where traffic checks are to be made for the two days of the survey; their duties will be to stop and marshal vehicles and to prevent obstruction to the flow of general traffic. The work of questioning drivers, collating answers and assembling the information obtained will be shared by the London, Kent and Essex County Councils.

Mr. Dodds

Is the right hon. and learned Gentleman aware that, in view of the importance of the proposed traffic check to so many people, there will be great appreciation of the fact that the Home Secretary has taken this trouble?
