§ 41. Mr. N. Macphersonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will enter into negotiations with Governments of territories in the British Commonwealth, with a view to reaching agreements with them in anticipation of legislation in this country to make certain pioneer industry concessions granted in the territories concerned fully effective, in accordance with the recommendation of the Royal Commission on the Taxation of Profits and Income.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI do not think it would be advisable to enter into such negotiations in anticipation of possible legislation on this subject. As my hon. Friend the Economic Secretary explained both during the Finance Bill debates and in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Billericay (Mr. Braine) on 2nd July, I am going to consider this matter again when the Royal Commission have made their final report.
