HC Deb 09 July 1953 vol 517 c1473
31. Mr. Dodds

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will inquire into the methods being practised by an increasing number of mock auction businesses, with a view to considering legislation to protect the public and traders against this form of trading.

Sir H. Lucas-Tooth

My right hon. and learned Friend has recently agreed to a request from the National Chamber of Trade to send a deputation to the Home Office to discuss this matter.

Mr. Dodds

Is the hon. Gentleman's right hon. and learned Friend aware that there is a tremendous increase in this type of business and, despite the clever technique involved, it is in the main nothing less than bare-faced robbery?

Sir H. Lucas-Tooth

As the hon. Member has given notice that he intends to raise the matter on the Adjournment tomorrow, I think it might be more appropriate to discuss it then.
