HC Deb 02 July 1953 vol 517 cc564-5
9. Mr. Hurd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount of dollars saved by cuts in food imports in 1952.

Mr. Maudling

Food imports from the dollar area were reduced by £50 million in 1952 compared with 1951.

Mr. Hurd

Will the Treasury look particularly at those restrictions on dollar food imports that are prolonging food rationing, as in the case of cooking fats?

Mr. Maudling

We are anxious to remove restrictions on food imports as soon as it is possible to do so. In the case of sugar, of course, that is soon to take place.
