HC Deb 22 January 1953 vol 510 cc386-7
7. Dr. Broughton

asked the Minister of Health if, in view of the hardship caused to elderly people, he will remove the charges for drugs, medicines and dressings in cases where the patient is in receipt of the old-age pension.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

No, Sir.

Dr. Broughton

Can the hon. Lady deny that the Minister has received protests about this brutal imposition from branches of the Old Age Pensioners' Association all over the country, including a strong remonstrance from Ardsley, in my constituency?

Miss Hornsby-Smith

There is nothing I can add to what my right hon. Friend said in the discussions on the National Health Service Act last year, but I would remind the hon. Member that those whose incomes fall within the National Assistance scales can obtain remission of these charges.
