§ 20. Mr. Osborneasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he expects to receive a report from the Committee he appointed last July to consider rebates on unsold retail goods.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI take it my hon. Friend has in mind the Committee which is considering the question of stocks on an alteration of Purchase Tax or Customs and Excise Duty. I cannot say exactly when the Committee will report, but I expect that it will be in the near future.
§ Mr. OsborneIn view of the fact that this is of considerable concern to a lot of small shopkeepers, will the Chancellor 16 do all he can to hasten this report and see if something cannot be done, if possible before the next Budget?
§ Mr. ButlerYes, I am keen to see as early a report as possible.
