asked the Minister of Labour if he will give the figures for unemployment among workers in the motor and associated industries in the Coventry area at the latest available date, and at a similar date in 1952; whether he will Steps which the Government are taking to increase employment in Scotland were described in the House yesterday by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade.

Does the Minister realise—as, of course, he does—that these figures compare very unfavourably with figures for the same areas during the last five years? Will he do something to regain the recent glories in that respect?

I am much obliged to the hon. and learned Gentleman for his tribute to my omniscience. I do not carry all the figures in my mind, but I realise that these figures are unsatisfactory and whatever I can do to remedy them will be done.
