HC Deb 26 February 1953 vol 511 c2304
51. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Minister of Labour how many forestry workers are at present registered as unemployed in England and Scotland. respectively.

Sir W. Monckton

At 12th January there were 201 persons registered as unemployed in England and 201 in Scotland whose last employment was in the forestry industry. Figures for February are not yet available.

Major Anstruther-Gray

Would my right hon. and learned Friend bring to the attention of these men the openings that there are for forestry workers in the areas hard hit by the recent gales?

Sir W. Monckton

Yes. A number of people hitherto registered as unemployed in the forestry industry have taken this work, and we are encouraging others to do the same.
