HC Deb 18 February 1953 vol 511 c1225
20. Mrs. Mann

asked the Minister of Food if he can explain the significance of the letter D, on certain packages of margarine, and the letter W, on others; and how far there is any public preference expressed for W margarine.

Major Lloyd George

The letter indicates the factory at which the margarine was made. As regards the second part of the Question I have no information.

Mrs. Mann

Is the right hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that there is an expressed desire for margarine W in the West of Scotland, and is that because it is fresher and contains more nut oil than the other?

Major Lloyd George

The ingredients of all margarines are specified and supplied by the Ministry. There may be different processes of manufacture, but so far as the ingredients are concerned, they are identical in all.
