HC Deb 11 February 1953 vol 511 c398
21. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Minister of Food the total quantity of bacon and ham distributed last year, compared with 1950 and 1951.

Major Lloyd George

The figures are 495,000 tons compared with 451,000 tons in 1950 and 414,000 tons in 1951.

Mr. Fernyhough

In view of the fact that the figures which the right hon. and gallant Gentleman has given are comparable with those of 1952, does he not agree that the people of this country are paying exorbitant prices for the bacon which they receive by comparison with those which they paid in 1950 and 1951?

Major Lloyd George

The fact is that they do not seem to object. They are eating more of it.
