HC Deb 10 February 1953 vol 511 c208
26. Mr. M. MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when the Scottish Economic Conference last met; how often it has met under his chairmanship; and when it is to meet again.

Mr. J. Stuart

The Scottish Economic Conference last met on 12th May, 1950, under the Chairmanship of the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Greenock (Mr. McNeil). No matters for discussion at the Conference have since been suggested by its constituent members, and I see no occasion at present for calling a further Conference.

Mr. MacMillan

Does the right hon. Gentleman not think, in view of what is obviously his own attitude towards it, as well as that of his predecessor, that it is high time we wound up this thing once and for all and forgot about it?

Mr. Stuart

I will look into that.
