HC Deb 10 February 1953 vol 511 cc191-2
Mr. Julius Silverman

I beg to present a petition from more than 2,500 workers in the Birmingham cycle industry calling attention to the dangers of mass unemployment and the crisis which exists in the cycle industry. The prayer of the petition is as follows: We, your petitioners, humbly pray Her Majesty's Government to give full consideration to several points which we consider to be detriments to full employment. The points which we draw attention to are these: the Butler imports Acts, the removal of Purchase Tax from cycles, the modification of the hire purchase terms, and the removal of all trade barriers that exist to the detriment of full employment, and your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray. To lie upon the Table.
