§ 29. Mr. K. Robinsonasked the President of the Board of Trade how many foreign films dubbed abroad were imported during the last 12 months; and whether he will protect and encourage that section of the British film industry engaged on dubbing foreign films for exhibition here.
§ Mr. P. ThorneycroftI am informed that during 1952 10 such films were imported. I will consider the suggestion in the latter part of the Question together with other suggestions for amendment of the Cinematograph Films Act.
§ Mr. RobinsonIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the current controversy about dubbing is completely distorted by the exhibition of films which are very carelessly and cheaply done abroad? Is the Minister further aware that both France and Italy have legislation protecting their own home dubbing industry, and will he bear this in mind when considering the matter?
