HC Deb 03 February 1953 vol 510 cc1650-1
38. Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will give his approval for a start on the Loch Glass water scheme.

Commander Galbraith

The objections lodged against the draft Water-Rights Order under the Water (Scotland) Act, 1946, have now been withdrawn, and the Order has been made today. My right hon. Friend is asking the county council to invite tenders for the work and he hopes to be able to authorise a start in Mid-April.

39. Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent progress on the construction of water schemes in Ross and Cromarty is delayed by the Treasury restriction on capital investment.

Commander Galbraith

So far as I am aware the schemes have not been delayed by restrictions on capital investment. Since these were imposed the county council have not in any year carried out work to the full value of the amount allocated to them.
