HC Deb 03 February 1953 vol 510 cc1629-30
8. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Minister of Works whether he has now decided to increase the number of licences to trade in Trafalgar Square.

Mr. Eccles

No, Sir. I am satisfied that the number of licensed photographers is at present adequate to meet public demand.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Now that some 1,000 police summonses have been disposed of, will the Minister reconsider whether, particularly during this Coronation year and the summer season, it is reasonable to expect three photographers and three corn sellers to cope with the demand that is likely to be made upon their services?

Mr. Eccles

I think that the hon. and gallant Gentleman is wrong. It is true that the appeal case has been decided against the photographers, but the 500 summons have not been dealt with, and I would not like to say how they will be decided. With regard to the visitors, we shall see how they get on. With regard to the pigeons, I see no reason why they should increase during the Coronation period.
