§ 36. Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many applications for a licence for the building of a private house were received in 1952 by the county council of the county of Lanark; how many were refused; and of those granted how many were returned by the licensee or not proceeded with.
Commander GalbraithIn 1952 the council received 113 applications for building licences, of which 42 were refused. Of the 71 licences issued four have been returned. No information is available as to how many houses have not been proceeded with
§ Mr. MaitlandHow many were refused on the ground of being unreasonable applications, in view of the terms of the Department of Health circular sent out last September by the Secretary of State, urging that all reasonable applications should be accepted?
Commander GalbraithAs my hon. Friend knows, this matter is one for the decision of the local authority.
