HC Deb 03 February 1953 vol 510 c1637
19. Captain Duncan

asked the Minister of Labour what arrangements will be made for persons in Kirriemuir when the local office of his Department closes on 30th May, particularly as regards claims for assistance and registration for military service.

Mr. Watkinson

After 30th May persons who have been dealt with at the Ministry of Labour's local office in Kirriemuir will be dealt with at Forfar Employment Exchange. I assume my hon. and gallant Friend's reference to assistance was intended to refer to unemployment benefit.

Captain Duncan

Although I agree with the idea of closing down the office on economy grounds, is it not possible to retain an office or a room for one day a week to deal with disabled people and old age pensioners?

Mr. Watkinson

Unfortunately, if we do that we shall not make the full saving of about £550 a year, but I will certainly keep that matter under review. If my hon. and gallant Friend has any severe cases which he would like to bring to my notice, we will look at the matter again.
