HC Deb 03 February 1953 vol 510 cc1643-4
28. Mrs. Mann

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that Scottish landlords are failing to burn one-tenth of their heather areas annually and thereby are failing to give support to the food production drive; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Snadden

I have no information to suggest that the position is as implied in the hon. Member's Question, but if she cares to supply me with particulars of any specific cases she may have in mind I shall be glad to have inquiries made.

Mrs. Mann

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware that if he follows the reports of the Sheepbreeders' Association, as reported in the Scottish newspapers, he will get all the information he requires?

Mr. Snadden

I must again remind the hon. Lady that both landlords and tenants have their responsibilities under existing legislation, and steps can be taken within that legislation to deal with heather burning.
