HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c543
Brigadier Medlicott

I desire to present a Petition on behalf of over 2,600 residents of the parish of Hellesdon in the county of Norfolk. The Petition states that the use of the Royal Air Force Station at Horsham St. Faith's as an operational air station has brought increasing disturbance and anxiety to large numbers of the residents in this area; that the flying activities are reducing the amount of sleep available to workers both by day and by night and have also interfered seriously with education; that the nearness of this air station to so many houses and schools is a source of danger not only to the residents but also the pilots and crews of the aircraft, to whose courage and devotion to duty your petitioners pay tribute; and, lastly, that with the increase in the speed and power of aircraft, all these tendencies will be increased with a consequent worsening of the conditions of which your petitioners complain.

It concludes with this Prayer: Wherefore your petitioners pray that the Horsham St. Faith's Royal Air Force Station be no longer used for operational purposes, or in the alternative, that the runways nearest to the parish of Hellesdon be replaced by runways as far distant as possible there from, and your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray. To lie upon the Table.
