HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 cc544-5
4. Mr. Higgs

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he proposes to take to secure the implementation of the report of the committee on conditions in the drop forging industry.

Mr. Watkinson

Factory inspectors are bringing the report to the attention of employers during their visits. Its recommendations are being widely publicised by the industry, and in accordance with a suggestion in the report the Chief Inspector of Factories is setting up a Standing Joint Advisory Committee, which will keep under review the progress made.

Mr. Higgs

Is the Minister aware that this excellent Report is welcome on both sides of an industry in which relations are good, and that his announcement of the action being taken will also be welcomed? Will he keep the matter constantly under review in order to see that that Report is implemented?

Mr. Watkinson

Yes, Sir. I am grateful to my hon. Friend for giving it this additional publicity.
