asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why a qualified Malay marine officer is prevented from taking command of a vessel of more than 150 feet in length; and if he will take steps to put all men of equal qualifications on the same footing.

No such steps are necessary as the merchant shipping legislation in force in Malaya is already non-discriminatory.
