asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is now able to say when he proposes to authorise the administrators of Roumanian property in the United Kingdom to distribute the United Kingdom assets.

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which the Economic Secretary gave on the 24th November to the hon. Member for Lanarkshire, North (Miss Herbison). I hope that a settlement will be reached shortly.

May I draw the attention of my right hon. Friend to the answer he gave in this House on 11th November last year, when he said that payment would be made at an early date? Will he not try to make those concerned more expeditious in making this payment?

These things take a little time to work out, especially in view of those with whom we have to negotiate, but I certainly hope that a settlement will be reached shortly.
