HC Deb 14 December 1953 vol 522 c12
18. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will renew the offer, made to the Argentine and Chile in 1947, to refer to the International Court the dispute about the Falkland Islands dependencies

Mr. Dodds-Parker

No time limit has been set to Her Majesty's Government's offer to accept the jurisdiction of the International Court in this matter, and the question of renewal does not, therefore, arise. The Argentine and Chilean Governments have been reminded on several occasions since 1947 that our offer remains open, and were urged to accept it as recently as February of this year.
