HC Deb 10 December 1953 vol 521 cc2149-50
5. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will state the number of words in the statement made by Christie at the Notting Hill police station in December, 1949; and the time taken for recording it.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Christie made three statements at Notting Hill police station, on 1st, 5th and 8th December, 1949. They contained 991, 821 and 375 words respectively. No record is kept of the time spent in taking statements made by potential witnesses, as Christie was at the time in question.

Mr. Willey

Are there any valid reasons why this statement should not be made available to help those who are properly interested in this case?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

That is a different question, which I should like to consider.
