§ 2. Miss Burtonasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the extent of mis-description of men's and women's articles of wear, purporting to be made of nylon, which are, in fact, made entirely of other fibres or include only very small proportions of nylon; and what steps he is prepared to take to deal with this fraudulent practice to protect the public.
§ Mr. P. ThorneycroftNo, Sir; but if the hon. Member will send me information about specific cases, I will consider what action, if any, I can usefully take.
§ Miss BurtonIn thanking the Minister for that answer, may I ask him whether he knows of the concern of the retail trade about this matter? Is he aware that the National Association of Outfitters has warned shops of this mis-description and that the Retail Trading Standards Association has done the same Would he look into the matter in conjunction with these trade associations?
§ Mr. ThorneycroftI should be very happy to receive any information on this subject.
§ Sir H. WilliamsCould not my right hon. Friend transfer the nylon from Questions No. 1 to Question No. 2 and thus solve all the problems?
