HC Deb 07 December 1953 vol 521 c1593
8. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a further statement on the proposed Korean political conference.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

In the meetings at Panmunjom to discuss arrangements for the political conference, Mr. Dean has put forward a number of proposals dealing with neutral representation and other matters. The discussions continue.

Mr. Henderson

Will the Government recommend, in the event of all further attempts failing, a return to the provisions of Article 60 of the Armistice Agreement which provides or recommends that a high level conference, representative of both sides, should be held?

Mr. Lloyd

That was the recommendation, and in view of the agreed recommendation one sometimes wonders why there have been all these difficulties about the proposed conference.
