asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the dangers to health arising from the eating of meat from imported animals which have suffered from foot-and-mouth disease; and if he will strengthen the precautions aimed at preventing importations of this kind.

Provided the animal is not suffering from foot-and-mouth disease when slaughtered and the meat is otherwise fit for human consumption there is no danger to health. The control of imports of live animals is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
