§ 26. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the smoke nuisance caused to the people of Rugby by his Department's grain drier in Law-ford Road; and what action he is taking in this matter.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeYes, Sir. Re-Commissioned Mills, Limited, who manage this drier, are in consultation with Ministry of Works engineers about the matter.
§ Mr. JohnsonIs the Minister aware—I hope he is—that a constant volume of black smoke is being poured out of this establishment, to the annoyance of all the housewives in the locality, who will be delighted that he is taking the steps that he says he will take?
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeI am sure the hon. Member appreciates from what he knows that this is an extraordinarily stubborn question. Many remedies have been tried, but not one has succeeded. Only in the last three or four days an engineer of the Ministry of Works has been investigating the matter in Rugby.
§ Mr. JohnsonIs the right hon. and gallant Gentleman not aware that 99 per cent. of this nuisance can be eliminated by mechanical stoking, as has been done by the borough council with their public baths?
