§ 48. Mr. Blenkinsopasked the Minister of Health whether he will set up a statistical unit in his Department to assist both in publishing more information for the general public and in providing detailed figures for the use of the Department.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodThis method of collecting statistical material has not so far been adopted, but I always have this subject in mind, and I shall have to consider, as experience grows, whether it is necessary to alter the present arrangements for the purposes mentioned.
§ Mr. BlenkinsopAs an alternative, has the right hon. Gentleman considered the use of the Registrar-General's Department, and, possibly, some extension of that Department which would make it of greater value to the Ministry of Health?
§ Mr. MacleodAs the hon. Gentleman knows very well, there is a flood of information coming in now about costing and other financial aspects of the Health Service. If I can set up a Department without exceeding my present establishment, I think it will be more convenient to keep it centrally within my Ministry.
