§ 28. Mr. Goughasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what arrangements are in force at Poplar Wharf for Customs examinations; and whether he is aware that delays frequently occur, resulting in heavy demurrage charges to importers.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerPoplar Railway Dock is approved for the lading and unlading of certain goods in bulk, and a Customs officer attends for any necessary Customs business as required. I am not aware of any complaint that the present Customs facilities are inadequate for the approved traffic. I have no evidence to suggest that delays such as are alleged are attributable to the Customs.
§ Mr. GoughWould my right hon. Friend be kind enough to look into a specific case if I bring it to his notice?
§ Mr. ButlerYes, certainly.
