HC Deb 27 April 1953 vol 514 cc1738-9
19. Mr. Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will provide facilities for passports to be obtained at Cardiff, Swansea and at a convenient centre in North Wales.

The Minister of State (Mr. Selwyn Lloyd)

No, Sir. I am advised that there would not be enough local passport work to justify the expense.

Mr. Gower

Does not the Minister agree that this is very unfair to Wales? Similar facilities are obtainable in many English provincial centres. Will not my right hon. and learned Friend do something in this matter?

Mr. Lloyd

I do not think it is true to say that such facilities are available in many English provincial centres. So far as I know there is only one in England and one in Scotland. I think that the question is a technical one of whether the expense can be justified.

Mr. Gower

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of that reply I beg to give notice that I will raise this matter on the Adjournment at the earliest possible opportunity.
