HC Deb 20 April 1953 vol 514 cc639-40
37. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Food how much he expects to recover towards the reduction of the food subsidy during the year 1953–54 by the increase in the price of flour.

Major Lloyd George

About £7 million.

Mr. Willey

Does the right hon. and gallant Gentleman appreciate that this is a price increase which will have very wide repercussions in other price increases? Can he give any estimate of the resultant increase because of this modest saving of £7 million? The confectionary trade have already announced price increases.

Major Lloyd George

I cannot give that information without notice.
