HC Deb 20 April 1953 vol 514 c640
39. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Minister of Food if he will extend the ration concessions for Coronation street tea parties for the whole of the month of June.

Major Lloyd George

I prefer to concentrate on improving food supplies generally as fast as I can, and I do not feel that any extension of this special arrangement would be justified.

Brigadier Clarke

Does my right hon. and gallant Friend appreciate the difficulty of having all the Coronation tea parties in the same week? The parties are held street by street, and the same tables, chairs, cups and saucers are used at each. Would he please spread these concessions out over the month?

Major Lloyd George

My hon. and gallant Friend will appreciate that a great many of the foods involved at these parties are still rationed and, therefore, if one extended the period it would not be reasonable to a great majority of the people who do not have these concessions.
