HC Deb 20 April 1953 vol 514 c644
46. Mr. Wyatt

asked the Prime Minister whether he will now make a further statement concerning British participation in the A.N.Z.U.S. Defence Pact.

The Prime Minister

No, Sir. This matter will however be among those which I hope to discuss with the Prime Minister of Australia and New Zealand when they are over here for the Coronation.

Mr. Wyatt

As the Prime Minister has now been in office for 18 months, and since he strongly rebuked the Labour Party on this matter and has taken a keen personal interest in it, can be explain why it has not proceeded any further, and whether there is any real desire on the part o f New Zealand and Australia for us to be included in this Defence Pact?

The Prime Minister

I indicated in my answer that these matters will be the subject of further discussion with the Prime Ministers of Australia, New Zealand and this country.
