HC Deb 16 April 1953 vol 514 cc372-3
49. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Education to what extent the prospective influx of mineworkers and their families from other coalfields has been taken into account in determining the size of the 1953–54 schoolbuilding programme for Staffordshire.

Miss Horsbrugh

No provision was made in the 1953–54 building programme for the erection of a new school in Newcastle-under-Lyme. As I told the hon. Member last October, the local education authority and my Department are fully aware of the arrangements being made for the housing of miners in this area, and its needs will be further reviewed in relation to the 1954–55 programme.
