HC Deb 16 April 1953 vol 514 c360
26. Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is now possible to state how many people are enrolled in industrial civil defence.

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir Hugh Lucas-Tooth)

No, Sir. My right hon. and learned Friend endorses the view expressed by the Mabane Committee that this information should be available, but proposes to seek it after the issue of a second Industrial Bulletin now in preparation setting up the Industrial Civil Defence Service to which he referred in answer to my hon. Friend's Question on 18th December last.

Mr. Harvey

Is my hon. Friend aware that his answer will give satisfaction to all those interested in Civil Defence who have felt that the absence of these figures gave a very false picture? Will he also note that there is great concern that the industrial Civil Defence and normal Civil Defence organisations appear to be drifting apart?

Sir H. Lucas-Tooth

Yes, Sir.
