HC Deb 01 April 1953 vol 513 c1181
1. Lieut-Colonel Lipton

asked the Minister of Civil Aviation whether the minimum age limit of 14 years for solo flying in gliders will now be raised.

The Parliamentary Secretary to die Ministry of Civil Aviation (Mr. John Profumo)

Yes, Sir. The minimum age is to be raised to 16 years.

Lieut-Colonel Lipton

Is the hon.Gentleman aware that his answer will remove anxiety caused by fatal accidents involving 14 year-olds doing solo gliding; and that this step to make the practice uniform with that in the Air Training Corps, where the age limit is 16, will be greatly welcomed?
