HC Deb 30 October 1952 vol 505 c2082
9. Mr. W. Wells

asked the Minister of Education what changes are being made in the status and organisation of Loughborough College.

Miss Horsbrugh

As from 1st September the Engineering and Science Departments of Loughborough College ceased to be maintained by the Leicestershire local education authority and became a separate establishment, known as the Institute of Technology, Loughborough College. The Institute is controlled by an independent governing body, and receives direct grant from my Department. Other parts of Loughborough College remain under the control of the local education authority.

Mr. Wells

Will the right hon. Lady indicate to what extent, if any, it is proposed that this change should constitute a precedent for technical colleges of national repute?

Miss Horsbrugh

I think we must deal with each case on its merits.
