HC Deb 29 October 1952 vol 505 cc1900-1
5. Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air how much is expended on films made for the Royal Air Force per year; and what attempts have been made to bring about savings.

Mr. Ward

Expenditure on films is at present limited to training films, which represent an effective and economical method of training men in the use of complicated and expensive equipment. In 1951–52, this expenditure amounted to £49,000. There is close liaison with the other Services and outside agencies over the production and exchange of training films, and each proposal for a new film is carefully considered on its merits in the light of its potential value as a training medium.

Air Commodore Harvey

Does my hon. Friend not consider that if the Royal Air Force had a central library in which to distribute its films, rather on the same lines as the Army, it might be more efficient and more economical?

Mr. Ward

That is under consideration at the present time.
