HC Deb 21 October 1952 vol 505 c837
8. Mr. Roy Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what revised estimate he had made, in view of the import cut announced on 29th July, of the figure of £100 million as the amount by which imports in 1952 are to be reduced as against imports in 1951.

Mr. R. A. Butler

In his speech on the 30th July my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade estimated that imports in 1952 would be reduced by some £400 million in comparison with imports in 1951. I see no reason to vary that estimate.
