HC Deb 26 November 1952 vol 508 c447
38. Mr. Edelman

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence what changes have been made in the operational language of the Services in order that it may conform with American practice; and by what agency these changes are made.

Mr. Birch

Common operational terms and definitions are being agreed by the standardisation and communications agencies of N.A.T.O. and also between our own military authorities and those of the United States. Under these arrangements we have adopted some American terms and they have adopted some of ours.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Are the other ranks represented on this Committee which is deciding upon the common terms that are to be used?

Mr. Birch

I should want notice of that question.
