42. Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many building workers were employed by the East Kilbride Development Corporation on the first day of each month in the year 1952; and what is the number of houses which had been completed by the corporation by the same date.

Can my right hon. Friend say whether the number of building workers has increased by approximately 100 per cent. over the past year and whether, at the same time, the tempo of the rate of increase of housing completions, of site preparations and of putting houses out to contract has not increased by more than 15 per cent.?

My hon. Friend will see the figures. There has, of course, been an increase in the labour force, but there has also been a considerable increase in houses completed and under construction.
