HC Deb 11 November 1952 vol 507 c763
48. Mr. T. W. Jones

asked the Prime Minister when he proposes to make an announcement on the appointment of a Joint Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department and Welsh Affairs.

The Prime Minister

I hope to do so before long. In the meantime, although the Home Office is short of an Under-Secretary, there is a Minister for Welsh Affairs in the Cabinet.

Mr. G. Thomas

Is the Prime Minister aware that the patience of the Welsh people is beginning to wear very thin, and that if this is really an important post we cannot understand the Prime Minister being defeated by such difficulties as confront him?

The Prime Minister

I am giving careful consideration to the matter. I should not like to do anything less than the best.

Mr. Ross

Does the Prime Minister realise that it would meet greatly with the wishes of the people of Scotland to give a free transfer to one of our three Under-Secretaries?
