HC Deb 10 November 1952 vol 507 cc568-9
5. Mr. Nabarro

asked the Minister of Supply whether all demands are now being met for licences for steel and cast-iron for manufacture of fuel efficiency and economising equipment for industrial, commercial and domestic use.

Mr. Sandys

So far as I am aware, the manufacture of this equipment is not being delayed through shortages of licensed materials.

Mr. Nabarro

Is my right hon. Friend aware that he is misinformed in this matter? For instance, is he aware that only a few weeks ago the Ridley Committee on National Policy for the Use of Fuel and Power Resources made this specific recommendation: Steps should be taken to assure adequate steel supplies for the production of fuel efficiency equipment"— and that, in fact, such supplies are not at present being made available?

Mr. Sandys

I do not know to what period that Report refers, but obviously not to the present moment. My information is that the situation is much eased and that there are no great difficulties in this respect. If, however, my hon. Friend will draw my attention to particular cases, I will gladly look into them.
