HC Deb 10 November 1952 vol 507 c593
56. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Food what effect the increased 1952–53 prices for Australian meat will have on the food subsidies or retail food prices.

Dr. Hill

The effects depend on the quantities and types of meat shipped. It is, therefore, impossible to make any precise forecast.

Mr. Willey

As we are facing increased prices and a possible further increase in prices on the Argentine contract, does not this mean that, automatically, there will be an increase in retail prices before the end of the financial year?

Dr. Hill

No, Sir. My right hon. and gallant Friend has stated that there will be no further increases in meat prices during the current financial year.
